STRAWBALE
WORKSHOPS & INFORMATION

learn more...

Strawbale infill uses rectangular bales to fill in between a standard structural system, typically post-and-beam.  The bales serve primarily as insulation and do not support the structural loads of the building.  As pure insulation, strawbale construction meets the current building codes throughout the U.S. and Canada.  The thick, super-insulating walls are typically plastered on both sides, using weather-resistant lime on the exterior and clay plaster on the interior.  Plasters may be finished with breathable paints or sealers.

WORKSHOP INCLUDES
  • overview of strawbale construction, including detailing and permits

  • demonstration of shaping and setting strawbales

  • guided hands-on experience building strawbale walls
