LIME PLASTER
WORKSHOPS & INFORMATION

learn more...

Lime plasters are age-old beautiful finishes that are durable even in extreme weather conditions.  Lime plasters combine calcium hydroxide (hydrated lime) and sand, which cures slowly by reacting with carbon dioxide from the air.  Unlike cement stucco, lime plasters contribute very little greenhouse gas to the atmosphere.  Application is typically in three coats, which can be spray-applied or hand-trowelled.  Lime plasters are applied directly to strawbale walls without additional lathing, since the straw provides excellent surface area.

WORKSHOP INCLUDES
  • overview of lime plaster, including ingredients, life-cycle, slaking, lathing, mixing techniques, and safety

  • demonstration of mixing lime and trowelling techniques

  • guided hands-on experience applying lime plasters to strawbale walls
