EARTHEN FLOOR WORKSHOPS & INFORMATION |

![]() learn more... |
Earthen floors are made using a combination of clay and sand. Other ingredients, such as straw, may be added for tensile strength and cement or lime may be added as a hardener or to speed drying times. The wet clay mixture is placed similar to a concrete topping slab. When completely dry, the floor may be finished with a variety of suitable non-toxic sealers. The materials for the floor are often obtained from the building site (from foundation excavation), though some clay or sand usually needs to be supplemented. The ingredients are inexpensive, and the result is a beautiful, natural floor with a singular connection to the earth. |
