SMALL SCALE LIVING ROOF
WORKSHOPS & INFORMATION

learn more...

A living roof or green roof literally has plants growing over a protected waterproofing membrane.  The plants are selected for their ability to survive in the arid environment created up high with no access to ground water.  Here plants rely on their ability to store rainwater to survive, such as climate-appropriate succulents, which store water in their leaves.  The plants provide several key benefits, including filtration and absorption of stormwater and significantly reducing heat gain in the summer.  The waterproofing membrane also lasts longer, since the living roof protects it from harmful UV rays.

WORKSHOP INCLUDES
  • overview of a living roof system including installation details for small projects

  • how to select appropriate plants and keep them healthy until they are established

  • guided hands-on experience installing drainage layer, soil medium, and plants
