DATE: August 6, 7, 8, 9 (4 Days) LOCATION: Downtown Westport, NY DESCRIPTION: Strawbale infill describes the use of rectangular bales of straw to create a super-insulating wrap around a standard structural system. The resulting walls are beautiful, quiet, and energy-efficient. We will also work a thin coat of clay into the surface of the straw so the walls will be plaster-ready. WHAT YOU LEARN: • comprehensive understanding of strawbale walls • overview of strawbale construction • recommended detailing for wet climates • permitting issues & tips • overview of passive solar design • hands-on experience of all installation techniques PROJECT: We will install strawbale walls in a 2-story passive solar home in Westport, NY This Course is for you if… you want to understand how to correctly install strawbale walls in wet climates.
